The virtue of Shimoda
Every year the port town of Shimoda celebrates for 2 days by parading a shrine though their town. Much like everywhere in Japan. But when the townspeople try to return the shrine, something curious happens and it is telling about a character trade Japanese people value. Working hard an giving it your best and being rewarded for your effort, not for the result, is a very different concept what I learnt growing up in Germany.
