A vintage photo of a group of young men in various attire. What we love about this pictures is that it accurately portrays the spirit of its time. Japan famously adopted Western culture throughout the Meiji period in rapid speed, but not without keeping many of its own traditions. In this picture you can see that clearly: in the front row men wear traditional Japanese dresses, while others wear bow tie and uniform. One man even looks like a naval officer. Mostly military attires in Japan were adopted from Prussia. The influence is still clearly visible today in their school uniforms that girls and boys have to wear.
